Linear Fractionally Damped Oscillator

چکیده
The linearly damped oscillator equation is considered with the damping term generalized to a Caputo fractional derivative. The order of the derivative being considered is 0 ≤ v ≤ 1. At the lower end v 0 the equation represents an undamped oscillator and at the upper end v 1 the ordinary linearly damped oscillator equation is recovered. A solution is found analytically, and a comparison with the ordinary linearly damped oscillator is made. It is found that there are nine distinct cases as opposed to the usual three for the ordinary equation damped, over-damped, and critically damped . For three of these cases it is shown that the frequency of oscillation actually increases with increasing damping order before eventually falling to the limiting value given by the ordinary damped oscillator equation. For the other six cases the behavior is as expected, the frequency of oscillation decreases with increasing order of the derivative damping term .

This paper examines the solution of a damped beam equation whose damping characteristics are well-defined by the fractional derivative (FD). Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM) is applied for calculating the dynamic response (DR). Unit step and unit impulse functions are deliberated for this analysis. Acquired results are illustrated to show the movement of the beam under various sets of parameters ...
متن کاملCOMPARING NUMERICAL METHODS FOR THE SOLUTION OF THE DAMPED FORCED OSCILLATOR PROBLEM
In this paper, we present a comparative study between the Adomian decomposition method and two classical well-known Runge-Kutta and central difference methods for the solution of damped forced oscillator problem. We show that the Adomian decomposition method for this problem gives more accurate approximations relative to other numerical methods and is easier to apply.

Abstract. In this paper we point out the existence of a remarkable nonlocal transformation between the damped harmonic oscillator and a modified Emden type nonlinear oscillator equation with linear forcing, ẍ+αxẋ+βx+γx = 0,which preserves the form of the time independent integral, conservative Hamiltonian and the equation of motion. Generalizing this transformation we prove the existence of non...

In this paper we study to what extent the canonical equivalence and the identity of the geometric phases of dissipative and conservative linear oscillators, established in a preceeding paper, can be generalized to nonlinear ones. Considering first the 1-D quartic generalized oscillator we determine, by means of a perturbative time dependent technic of reduction to normal forms, the canonical tr...

In addition to the passive observation of a non linear oscillator and the description of the measured data with Lyapounow exponents [1, 2], fractal dimensions [3-5], entropies [6], etc. it is possible to charcterize a non-linear oscillator by an active method, namely by determining its response to specific perturbations. The resonances of harmonic systems which are brought about by a sinusoida...
